Gear Options

For your first few classes, regular gym attire is perfectly fine. Just ensure your clothing fits snugly, as loose fabric can catch on fingers or toes, potentially causing injury. Please avoid wearing fragrances or makeup, but we do appreciate good hygiene and the use of deodorant, as martial arts training involves close contact. Lastly, for safety reasons, all piercings and jewelry must be removed before class.

When you’re starting out in a new sport, it’s hard to know what you’ll need. We’ve added some suggestions below. We don’t recommend buying everything, of course, these are just items that we’ve noticed students use over time.

While we have loaner gloves and gis available in some sizes, we 100% recommend buying your own, once you decide to commit to training. Peter may have some gear available so get in touch with him at 902-830-9111 or speak to him after class.

All Programs

Below are products you can find on Amazon that students in all programs typically find useful. Keep your eye on BJJHQ for daily deals on gear and talk to your new teammates about what gear they recommend.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Striking

While we do have gear for students to borrow, we find that students prefer to purchase their own gear as striking gear gets pretty sweaty and smelly. Do you really want to put on a pair of gloves or headgear that someone else has covered in sweat? It’s not a pleasant experience.

To keep your gear fresh, we recommend cleaning items with wipes and giving them plenty of room to air dry after each use.

Bully Proof Kids Gear

Supplements

We’ve added lots of options but in the end, it’s up to you what you feel is necessary for class. You don’t have to buy everything at once, people typically buy what they want or need over time.

We’ll see you on the mats!
